Current status
This is now!
At present, neither the John Roan governors nor the John Roan Foundation members have given their final agreement to the proposed move. To find out the current position of the key players on the proposed move, click here .
As of 30 August, planning application for the proposed move has been granted for a school on the Peninsula which the planning board stated was not necessarily the John Roan School - even though it is submitted under the name of the John Roan and given the title of the John Roan in the statement of the Council's decisions! This is to come?
The planning application must now be forwarded to the Mayor of London's office and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) for approval. We will continue to contest this and are considering the possibilities of a judicial review of the planning process.
If the governing body and the John Roan Foundation agree to the move and it is approved by the Mayor, the business plan will be submitted to the DCSF and approved, and then the building can start. Building on the new site has been scheduled to start in September, but we think it very unlikely that this will happen.
The Council’s plan is for the new school to be open for the start of the 2009/2010 school year (i.e. in September 2009).
